Cellist Sigurður Bjarki Gunnarsson cellist graduated with a soloist diploma from the Reykjavik College of Music in 1995 where he studied with Gunnar Kvaran. He graduated with a BM degree from the Manhattan School of Music in Spring 1998 and received a Masters degree from the Juilliard School of Music in New York in 2000 under the instruction of Harvey Shapiro. Sigurður Bjarki has performed in numerous recitals in Iceland and in the US in addition to many solo appearances with orchestras such as the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Reykjavik Chamber Orchestra. He has also performed with various chamber ensembles in Scandinavia, the UK and in the US. This includes performances on BBC Radio, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Sigurður Bjarki has also recorded and performed extensively with the world-renowned pop artist Björk as a member of the Icelandic String Octet. Sigurður Bjarki is currently a member of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and is active on the chamber music scene in Reykjavik, both as a concert artist and in recording studios.
